Our History

On Sunday, September 20, 2020, a group of sincere and dedicated disciples launched out to create Christian atmosphere to serve and worship God. We were housed at our temporary location, 501 Hampton Park Boulevard, Capitol Heights, MD, in the sanctuary of The Miracle Center of Faith Missionary Baptist Church. After that worship experience, we met and were named The Tabernacle Baptist Assembly, "Where The Presence Of God Dwells".

The congregation accepted and unanimously voted our visionaire, Pastor Larry Phillip McCray, as our Organizing Pastor and undershepherd. Pastor McCray appointed five Trustees: Sister Betty Cheatham, Sister Tracie Smart, Sister Angela Spence, and Brother Earl Morgan, with Brother Sylvester Seldon serving as CFO, with full consent of the congregation. In addition, Deaconess Betty C. Hinton was appointed our Church Clerk and Sister Barbara Farris, our Church Secretary.

In January 2021 we occupied space for worship at 8329 Old Marlboro Pike, Upper Marlboro, MD and then for several weeks at The Harborside Hotel in Oxon Hill, MD. God continued to add to the congregation and unify the hearts of the church. On May 16, 2021, the Lord blessed us to enter into a lease agreement with the Henson Valley Disciples Of Christ Church, 1900 Tucker Road, Fort Washington, MD, our current place of worship.

Since our God-led, humble beginnings, the Lord has continued to add to our fellowship and empowered us to perform Ministry, during a worldwide pandemic, by ministering and impacting the lives of lost and marginalized people, to have a personal relationship with God. On May 30, 2021, we were blessed to consecrate our first Deaconess, Sister Lillie Ruth Hamilton, to share in the responsibilities of the ordinances of the church.

We are blessed each week, since our inception, with skillful, anointed singing by our music aggregation "Tehila", which is comprised of Reverend B. Teresa Harrison, Sister Barbara Farris, Sister Sherri McGhee, and Sister Chandra Thomas. Within one year, with much prayer and meditation, we have introduced a Men's Ministry (The Journeymen), a Women's Ministry (The Daughters of Destiny), a Youth Ministry (CIA- Children Inspired and Active), an Usher’s Ministry, a Christian Education Ministry, a Book Club (The Discussion Room), and a Social Justice Ministry.

At the time of this writing, we are engaged in also implementing a strong Churchwide Evangelism campaign that involves and invokes everyone to share in the Good News, as we create an atmosphere of witnessing under the leadership support of our own Minister Monica Watson; and we are introducing a relevant Millennials Ministry.

As we celebrate the hand of God, leading and empowering us to do His Will on the occasion of our 1st Church and Pastoral Anniversary, we remain to be,

“Founded on FAITH, Rooted in HOPE, and Operating in LOVE!”
